At the Northern California State Gymnastics Competition held in Concord on March 8, three young gymnasts from Demarays Gymnastics in Fremont qualified to represent Northern California in the Men's Regional Competition in April.

Bennett Huang, Stephen Tseliko and Bryan Rosario are all 8 years old. They competed individually, at level five, in six different set routines: high bar, pommel horse, vault, parallel bars, rings and floor exercise.

Huang took first place, Tseliko second place, and Rosario fourth place. As an "All Stars" team with boys from Sparta Gymnastics in San Lorenzo, they placed first overall and were 2008 champions in their level.

Only the top six qualifying gymnasts at the state competition were selected to represent a state in the five-state men's regional championships held at the Peppermill Hotel in Reno, Nev., on April 6.

The five states represented at the regional competition were Northern and Southern California (divided because of its size), Nevada, Arizona and Hawaii.

In a field of more than 70 competitors at the regional championships, Huang took third place, Rosario eighth, and Tseliko 14th. The boys received individual medals and plaques.

Bennett Huang is the son of Joey and Su Hui Huang of Fremont, Stephen Tseliko is the son of Alex and Irina Tseliko of Fremont, and Bryan Rosario is the son of Andy and Martina Rosario of San Lorenzo.
