UNION CITY — Police on Thursday were investigating a pair of armed robberies in which two convenience stores were victimized within 15 minutes of each other, possibly by the same robbers.
7-Eleven stores on Whipple and Decoto roads were robbed between 10:20 and 10:35 p.m. Wednesday by a pair of men wearing black, hooded sweat shirts, Sgt. Gloria Lopez-Vaughan said.
"They've got the same M.O.," the sergeant said, adding that detectives are investigating a possible link.
The first incident happened at the store at 915 Whipple Road near Ithaca Street. Two clerks were working when two robbers — one with a handgun — entered the store and demanded cash, Lopez-Vaughan said.
After taking an undisclosed amount of money, the thieves fled on foot.
Less than 15 minutes later, the store on Decoto Road near Perry Road was robbed by two men of similar descriptions.
The robbers in both cases were described as black men about 20 years old. Both wore hooded sweatshirts and stood about 5 feet 7 inches tall.
